Apartment fire temporarily blocks U.S. 1

Stafford County firefighters had to string a hose across U.S. 1 early this afternoon to battle a minor exterior fire at an apartment complex just north of the Falmouth intersection.
Stafford County deputies rerouted traffic from the highway while firefighters doused the blaze, which was reported just after noon, according to Mark Doyle, Stafford County Fire and Rescue Department spokesman. He said the fire was contained to a porch and there was minor damage. He also said there were no injuries.
“The traffic is not that bad,” Doyle said at about 12:40 p.m., shortly after he left the scene.
