McDonnell’s Obama Assist
McDonnell keeps screwing up his chances to be Mitt’s V.P. choice. Yeah, Governor Bob says he’s not pursuing it. Whatever. He doesn’t really have any other options after his term as governor ends. If the ultrasound bill didn’t kill his chances, his nod that Obama actually helped Virginia’s economy will surely put that last nail in the coffin.
My editor didn’t like the original wording of the cartoon. He didn’t think McDonnell embarrassed the state or his party with the ultrasound bill. He didn’t embarrass the ultra-conservative wing of his party, but I’m sure the moderate part of it wasn’t too pleased. And I totally disagree that he didn’t embarrass Virginia. My editor said only the ultra-left wackos like Jon Stewart tore into McDonnell. My editor and I are on total opposite ends of the spectrum on judging public sentiment.
I changed the caption in the first panel to make him happy…and with something I could live with. I was told parts of this newspaper is in favor of the invasive vaginal ultrasound, and other parts are not. Count me as one of those with the paper that is not.
