Cuomophobia

I’m sure “Cuomophobia” has been used in some context elsewhere before.  It just seems too obvious…but not obvious enough to prevent me from using it.  If the gay marriage legislation does increase his political stock then I’m sure we’ll see and hear more of it in the future.  For what it’s worth, I’m not even a fan of puns.

Someday gay marriage will be legal in every state.  That’s a long time from today, but it’s going to happen.  Why will it happen?  Because it’s the right thing to do.  Mixed marriages used to be illegal and it was inevitable that hatred would fail to continue that stupid suppression.

When people vote against gay marriage, that’s one thing.  When people create new laws like the “Marriage Preservation Act” to further ban what’s already illegal, that’s some serious hatred.

I think we can have a new term out of this.  Being afraid of gays being treated equally is homophobia.  The fear of politicians who are progressive enough to advance equality for all can now be called “cuomophobia”.
