Are you aware the General Assembly just passed a bill banning text messaging while you’re driving? Right at this very moment, while reading this, my friend Kate just let out a high pitched wail. Hey, I think I just heard it.
Anyway, this law will not affect me as I never text anyone while driving…in fact, nobody ever texts. I don’t know anyone and nobody likes me…so there. The law doesn’t bother me. Not one bit. Not at all. Nope.
Speaking of awareness: As my band was setting up to play last Friday one of the waitresses started talking about the smoking ban. She said they would never pass it and I informed her they already did. She said not in Virginia and I replied yes, in Virginia…in fact, yesterday. Then she said it won’t happen and I informed her it was taking effect in December. Then she says the General Assembly would never pass it and I inform her they were the body who passed laws and it was waiting on the governor to sign in. Then she said the governor wouldn’t sign it and I informed her he was the major backer of the bill. Then she said "not in Virginia". Then I pulled my hair out. I really gotta stop talking about current events and political issues in bars.
Back to this texting law. Our staff Librarian, Craig…who we all affectionately refer to as "C-Man", asked me why I had to pick on text messengers. Then he said they should ban other distractions to safe driving, such as eating and turning on the radio. I suggested we ban riding in cars with babies because God knows there’s nothing more distracting than a bowel movement in the backseat….then Craig suggested riding in cars with dogs (again, that bowel movement thing). Craig also suggested they ban driving while drinking sodas and then he went one step further and said they should ban people from drinking beer and wine while driving. We ended our conversation when we realized that’s already illegal. Anyway, there were some good ideas from the C-Man.
Anyway, I dedicate this cartoon to all of my Facebook friends who are updating their facebook status on company time.
