Is this a crazy story or what?
Sometimes when I have to cover an individual for the first time, like a governor of another state, I check out the photos and see how my colleagues in that state draw the guy. I didn’t do that in this case because this guy is easy, plus, there’s not that many cartoonists in Illinois anymore. I’m sure this story’s not going to go away overnight. A lot of cartoonists have covered this but I think Mike Peters has drawn the best cartoon on it so far. It’s definetely one of those "I wish I had thought of that" ideas.
Here’s the rough.
Brian Duffy of the Des Moines Register was notable for having his cartoons run on the front page in full color. Brian lost his job last week. It’s been reported over and over again how this was the only newspaper in the country to run an editorial cartoon on the front page. Not true and I don’t have time venturing to various blogs and websites to correct people. Corky Trinidad has been drawing editorial cartoons on local subjects for the Honolulu Star-Bulletin since….God, I don’t know when. I should know this because I subbed for him for a year. It’s not easy.
