Sorry I didn’t post a teaser for today’s cartoon.  I was lazy with the blog yesterday and I was too busy drawing an extra toon for Creators.

Castro is dead or he’s not dead.  There’s always speculation, especially in South Florida the dude has died.  I think he’s a cockroach and he’s not ever going to die, like those hair bands in the 80′s that just won’t go away.  Cobain is dead and Poison is still touring.  There’s something wrong with that.  My editor told me he wasn’t comfortable with the cartoon but told me to go with it anyway.  He was concerned readers wouldn’t be familiar with the story.  He might be right.

I had another toon idea so I drew it too.  I liked it and chuckled way to much at it.  I offered it to my editor who promptly killed it.  It’s very risque…well, kinda.  It’s not that bad is it?  I broke one of my own rules with this one.  It’s a new rule.  I’ve drawn Barney in the past and I’ve decided to stop using him.  There’s way too many Barney resigning as first dog cartoons out there.  I’ve seen lots and lots and lots.  But I like to break rules, even my own.  But instead of having Barney resign I figured I’ve had him considered for a promotion.  Actually, going from first dog to AG is probably a demotion.  Also, I can’t stop picking on Larry “I’m not gay” Craig.

Do you think this cartoon is too dirty for a family newspaper?  Leave me a comment.

Speaking of dirty, the previous Craig cartoon I drew got me an email from my rep at Creators.  She said everyone at the L.A. office loved it but they were concerned with the way the feet were dangling.  She said it might be taken as a child in the bathroom stall.  Since that wasn’t what I was going for, I made the feet larger for them.  I especially didn’t mind since after 9 years with this syndicate it’s the first time they’ve ever expressed a concern over anything I’ve drawn.  We’ll see how they take the “barney licking” toon.

Also, thanks to Scott Stantis of the Birmingham News, I found out I didn’t just make the L.A. Times once.  I made it twice.  So I sent them an email asking about it and yep….I made it twice.  Thanks, Scott.
