I can’t even show you the cartoon that was killed for this issue. I drew a rough knowing it’d be killed and to see how awake my editor was. It’s too bad I can’t show it to you. Unfortunately, Paul, my editor was out and Linda approved the toon (after the jolt the killed cartoon).
I’m glad I hadn’t blogged yet because since it just happened, I can tell you this story. Paul calls me up to his office and says I have a great subject for a toon and we should talk about it. I sit down and we chit chat for a minute. And he says something about the courthouse being a great subject and I’m like oh yeah…I think so too, that’s the one that ran today. He’s “today?”…and he opens the paper and laughs and tells me he hadn’t seen it and to nevermind about working on a toon on the courthouse. But I told him when I left, that was a great idea to think of me doing something on the courthouse.
Here’s the toon
And the rough. Hilary educated me that the term would be “nauseated”. And I had her write it on the toon next to the speech balloon. You can barely see some of it here. She wasn’t wild about writing on what she considered art, but I only throw them away after scanning them.
