The recent raid of Louisiana Congressman William Jefferson’s Capital Hill office has both Democrats and Republicans screaming. It seems they think the Justice Department’s raid was unconstitutional. I’m thinking they’re worried if Congress isn’t sacred ground then where else can they hide their loot. It is kind of odd to see Congress work on such a bipartisan level only seen when they’re giving themselves a pay raise or a cost of living increase.
I find Minority Speaker Nancy Pelosi sort of hypocritical in this instance. Though she’s asked the accused Congressman to step down from his lofty committee seat, she hasn’t asked him to resign. But if a Republican is in trouble then she’s all about screaming into the nearest microphone how he should resign from Congress. Congressman Jefferson says he’s not going to resign from his committee as it’s too important in this time for New Orleans reconstruction. Hey, if he’s guilty, maybe that’s what the $90,000 in his freezer was planned for. New levees for New Orleans.
Here’s today’s toon on the issue.

My constant critic Joe Sucha actually liked this cartoon. This was his way of letting me know.
“Clay: At first I was dumbfounded that you would actually draw a cartoon reflecting the true Democrat’s eminence; then I realized you are probably on vacation and someone used your “space” to publish a fair and honest cartoon! Have a good vacation, Joe Sucha”
Joe, Maybe if I received an email from you not asking me to hit Democrats or criticizing a Republican I would be confused of it’s actual author also.
