Newspaper anatomy quiz (a Red Pen contest)
It bugs me when people refer to the item in the first picture by the name of the item in the second. It especially bugs me when newspaper professionals do it, which happens more often than you’d expect.
Here’s the Red Pen contest:
Identify which of these is the newspaper’s masthead. Then give me either of two acceptable names for the other thing.
One person who answers correctly will win a coveted red pen from the Red Pen blog. It’s a medium-point felt-tip Flair pen suitable for circling abused punctuation, correcting misspelled words and rewriting awkward phrases.
Comments have been screwy–which is to say that I can’t figure out why some appear below a post and others appear on Facebook–so we’ll do this one by email. Send your entries to lmoyer@freelancestar.com by 5 p.m. I’ll post the answers and the name of the winner late this afternoon.
