That booming you hear in the distance this week in and around Stafford County will most likely be from Marine Corps Base Quantico, where Marines are training and clearing firing ranges, according to a press release. It’s probably range-clearing operations going on at Marine Corps Base Quantico through the end of the week. Depending upon the weather, base officials say, the noise can be louder, or reflected in different ways. Here’s the latest noise advisory from the base.

If you’re hearing them today, it’s most likely ongoing training at Marine Corps Base Quantico. The base has posted a noise advisory through Friday. Today’s munitions testing is scheduled from 1-6 p.m. Base officials note that the noise intensity is affected by weather; cloudy skies reflect it and can make it more intense.
