Dahlgren testing to restrict Potomac River boat traffic
Boating will be restricted on portions of the Navy’s Potomac River Test Range from 8 a.m. Thursday, May 15, until 1 a.m. Friday, May 16.
The Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division says it will be conducting testing that is hazardous to boat traffic. The tests are routine and will evaluate atmospheric effects on the propagation of laser beams, a spokesman said.
The Upper Machodoc Creek (Baber Point area) will be restricted, along with access to the Middle Danger Zone.
The base says mariners should use caution when transiting the area, and should contact NSWCDD range control on Marine Band Radio VHF-FM Channels 14 or 16, or by telephone at 540 653-8791, or 540 653-8792.
