That noise you hear is jets from Dover

We’ve been getting some calls from Spotsylvania residents who report some loud and low-flying jets. It’s not your imagination. Bob McElroy, the spokesman at Fort A.P. Hill, says they’re training at the Army base in Caroline and Essex counties.

“They’re C-17s [large cargo jets] based out of Dover Air Force Base” in Delaware. “They’re practicing touch-and-gos and landing” at the fort’s assault landing strip, he says. “They’re a big airplane and they make some noise. We’ve been getting some calls about it. They should be done by tomorrow.” Take-offs and landings, along with jets approaching and leaving the fort, are what people away from the base likely are hearing, he says.
