Army says area soldier’s death was not an accident
The Army now says the death of Spc. Morganne McBeth, a 19-year-old medic killed in July in Iraq, is “an active and ongoing criminal investigation.” That’s according to Chris Grey, spokesman for the Army Criminal Investigation Command at Fort Belvoir. In my story on Friday, McBeth’s parents, Leonard and Sylvia McBeth of Stafford, , said they were initially told their daughter’s death was an accident, and that only recently it had become a murder investigation involving two fellow soldiers. The Army has not had any comment, until now, though it is not commenting on some of those details.
Says Grey, “I can tell you we take the death of this soldier very seriously and are investigating it as a homicide. I would also add our condolences to the family.” The CID investigates felony crimes and deaths. The family says it is still waiting for answers. See my story tomorrow for more.
