Stafford to purchase two new pumpers
Two new pumpers are coming to Stafford’s fire and rescue department.
The Board of Supervisors recently approved the $1.1 million purchase by an unanimous vote. The fiscal year 2014 capital improvement plan budgeted $1,115,000 for these two replacements.
One of the pumper trucks will replace a 1998 pumper truck with over 60,000 miles while the second will be placed at Company 12, Berea. The placement of the pumper there will free up a ladder truck there that is currently doubling as an aerial and a pumper truck.
A county memo stated that the 1998 pumper truck that will be replaced surpassed its recommended service life of ten years. The new pumper truck will average 1,000 incidents annually that will include structural fires, auto accidents, technical rescues, EMS calls and entrapments.
The memo also said that the second new unit will average 2,400 incidents annually including, but not limited to, structural fires, auto accidents, technical rescues, EMS calls, entrapments, and other related incidents.
