Numbers show development on rise
More numbers to share from Stafford’s monthly statistical report–
The number of building permits issued this January was 11 percent higher than the same period last year. That may not seem like that much, but it comes after permits went up 22 percent through all of 2012. The increase also reflects nearly double the value of construction for those permitted projects, at $26.8 million, compared to $13.7 million in 2012.
New construction of single family dwellings has more than doubled in that same January time period, though multi-family construction has dropped. But overall, the value of that construction for the month hits $18.3 million — an 80 percent increase from last January.
The reports show that 2012 had the highest number of building permits issued (640) since 2007 (758). The years between reflect the difficulty that developers have faced. The strong start to 2013–and the growing number of applications being submitted–is likely indicative of development picking up in the county.
