Report details stats about county residents, including jobs and wages
Stafford’s public school system is the top employer in the county, followed by GEICO and the FBI. And federal government workers make twice as much on average as do people who work in other industries.
That’s according to the Community Profile, compiled by the Virginia Employment Commission. You can find profiles by localities, Congressional districts and other groupings here. The report has lots of great data on population change, ethnicity, education levels, jobs, unemployment rates, number of in- and out-commuters and more.
One section details the average weekly wage by industry. Federal government employees top the chart at $2,069, followed by the professional/scientific/technical industry at $1,671.
Meanwhile, the average of all industries is $873 per week. The three lowest wages are in these fields: accommodation/food services, arts/entertainment/recreation and agriculture/forestry/fishing/hunting.
