New Parks and Recreation director named
A VDOT administrator has has been appointed as Stafford’s new Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities Director.
Jamie Porter will start the new job Feb. 4.
Former director Chris Hoppe left the post at the end of the summer to manage Stafford’s bond projects as the Capital Improvement Program Manager. An interim director has been working since August, while the county conducted a national search.
The director manages 50 full-time employees, and oversees more than 1,000 acres and 56 public buildings.
Porter has worked in local governments in North Carolina, including as a crime scene investigator, diversity facilitator and budget analyst. In 2006, she began working at the Virginia Department of Transportation as assistant director of the Programming Division, and then as assistant district administrator for Business, Planning and Investment Management. Her most recent position was as chief purchasing officer and administrative services director, overseeing 120 employees statewide. Porter has a degree in Public Administration from Shaw University and a Masters with a concentration in management.
“I am excited about joining Stafford’s leadership team and I am energized by the opportunity to make a difference in Stafford County,” Porter said in a release. “This role will allow me to use the many skills I gained in local and state government to have a positive impact on Stafford employees and citizens as we all work together to make Stafford a premiere community in Virginia.”
County Administrator Anthony Romanello said in a statement: “She has developed a reputation as a determined and compassionate leader with a record of building efficient operations and creating operational improvements. She knows our community, our region and the Commonwealth, and we are looking forward to welcoming her to our Stafford family.”
