311 call center up and running

If you dial 311 from a landline in Stafford, you’ll reach someone in the government complex who should help you throughout your call, without transferring you around to different offices.

The one-stop shop for incoming calls has been in a trial run since February, and now, it’s officially up and running, county spokeswoman Cathy Vollbrecht told the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday. (Here’s the presentation, and here’s a press release.)

The FCC dedicates the 311 line dedicated for local government information.

But if you call from a cellphone (or from outside the county), you’ll have to dial a few more numbers: 540/658-4311 or 658-5311.

The county plans to work with cellphone carriers to offer the 311 service, as well as to develop a county 311 app.
