Maddie found a home for Christmas
One of Stafford’s shelter dogs spent Christmas in a new home.
Maddie is a 10-year-old mix of spaniel, dachshund, Corgi and maybe beagle.
She had been picked up by animal control officers in October, but had a tumor. A generous donor paid for Maddie to undergo surgery at Aquia Garrisonville Animal Hospital earlier this month, with the hope that it would encourage someone to adopt her.
And it worked. After a story ran in The Free Lance-Star, more than a dozen people called, and another six or seven visited Stafford’s animal shelter on Eskimo Hill Road.
A Stafford family with an 8-year-old dachsund adopted Maddie on Saturday afternoon.
Assistant shelter manager Denise Spicer said several other cats were also adopted over the weekend. Another dog was adopted today.
If you’re looking for a new pet to join your family in 2013, you can visit the shelter 11-5:30 Tuesday-Friday, and 9:30-4 on Saturday. Pictures of some of the animals are here.
