Falmouth beach area closed for season, along with parking lot
Now that summer is over, the beach area along the Rappahannock River is closed.
The Historic Port of Falmouth is only open Memorial Day to Labor Day, just like the county’s public pools. Readers told us that not everyone knew that schedule.
County spokeswoman Cathy Vollbrecht says that during the summer, parks and rec attendants are on scene in case of emergency. But now, there’s no staff at the beach, so for safety reasons, it’s closed during the off-season.
That means the two adjacent parking lots along River Road are also gated and locked. A recently completed section of the Belmont-Ferry Farm Trail runs through the park, across the road and up through Pratt and Brooks parks. That’s where you’d need to park if you wanted to use the paved path.
Vollbrecht said there are discussions underway about keeping the Falmouth park open to allow use for the new part of the trail.
