Parks & Recreation department gets new interim director
A former city manager was appointed to be the interim director of Stafford County’s department of Parks, Recreation & Community Facilities.
Larry Hughes started his first day in Stafford on Tuesday.
He replaces Chris Hoppe, who moved to the lead role in implementing the county’s bond projects, said spokeswoman Cathy Vollbrecht.
A vacant public works position was converted to the new role, titled the capital improvements project manager, she said. No new positions were created. Hoppe introduced himself to the board under his new title at Tuesday’s meeting.
Hughes, who was not at the meeting, had retired in January after 13 years of running Manassas. Before that, he was the deputy county executive of Prince William County for 14 years. (Here’s a more complete resume.)
Stafford will soon post the job opening for a permanent director, Vollbrecht said.
