Development services center could be open in September
A one-stop-shop for building and development projects in Stafford County could open next month.
Construction is going on now for the new Community Development Services Center, which will be a central location for planning and permitting processes. The center should minimize the number of departments that builders and other customers must visit.
Work has been done after hours and during weekends to limit noise and disruptions in the county’s government complex. The new center will be found in what are now the Public Works and Planning and Zoning departments. Temporarily, a conference room in the Planning office is a lobby, and the permit intake area has moved to the Securities Office, also on the first floor of the George L. Gordon, Jr., Government Center. Signs are posted to direct customers, according to a press release.
The idea came about in 2010, when a subcommittee worked through changes to development fees and the review process. In November, the Board of Supervisors approved $400,000 for construction.
