YMCA to offer showers; Stafford cooling center to reopen
The latest news from Stafford:
Stafford remains under a local state of emergency. A cooling center has been opened at Gayle Middle School, 100 Panther Drive, Stafford, VA 22406, and will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Residents can cool off, have a drink and take a shower. Shelter officials ask that individuals bring their own bath essentials.
The Massad branch of the Rappahannock Area YMCA has opened its doors for showers for citizens without power. The YMCA requests that visitors show a valid photo ID and provide basic address information. Citizens are welcome today, tomorrow and Thursday as the YMCA will be closed on July 4. The YMCA is open this evening until 10 p.m.; Tuesday from 5a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Thursday, 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Massad YMCA is located at 212 Butler Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22405.
Authorities are asking residents to take extra precautions when using generators. Generators must not be placed inside homes or garages because of the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Emergency personnel would also like citizens with home oxygen units to monitor the levels of oxygen left as Wednesday is a holiday.
