Small water pipe breaks in Ferry Farm area
Update (12:15 p.m.): A 2-inch water main broke in the Ferry Farm neighborhood this morning. Crews from Stafford’s Utilities Department are out there now, digging up the pipe and repairing the break. Any brown water that comes from your faucets isn’t harmful, it’s just not aesthetically pleasing. The discoloration is caused by a buildup of iron and manganese in the pipe. Repairs should take just a few hours.
Three homes have called the Utilities Department today with concerns over brown water coming from their pipes.
Director Harry Critzer says that staff are now checking the Ferry Farm area. They don’t yet know if it’s a water break or something else, such as problems with a fire hydrant.
