Visit Crow’s Nest Preserve on May 5

Crow’s Nest Natural Area Preserve in eastern Stafford will be open one day this spring for visitors.

This photo, from supervisor Paul Milde, shows the new parking lot off Brooke Road. The lot is paved with a special material to prevent runoff into the creeks and bay.

Planned to be open year round in the future, Crow’s Nest access has been limited by funding. The Department of Conservation and Recreation, which manages the nearly 3,000-acre protected area, will hold its sixth field day for visitors on May 5.

Guided hikes and natural history interpretation will be available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., but reservations are required. Space is limited to 80 participants. Call Faye McKinney at 804/786-7951.

Casual clothes and comfortable shoes are recommended. Hikes will go on rain or shine.
