Boy Scouts collect food donations for holidays
More than 500 local Boy Scouts and 350 adults collected food donations last month at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and Hartwood Presbyterian Church. The program, “Scouting for Food,” is a national service project that the scouts participate in.
The donations were given to SERVE and various churches. One unit that collected food from Quantico donated to ACTS Shelter in Dumfries.
The Aquia District collected 23,330 pounds of food, which is 25 percent more than last year. The unit that collected the most food was Troop 840 (meets at Carl Lewis Community Center), with 2,204 pounds of food collected from Aquia Harbour.
The scouts will hold next year’s drive on the second Saturday in November.
