School bus involved in accident on U.S. 17
Updated: State police said late last night that 12 people were taken to the hospital by ambulance or by their parents. Here’s the story from today’s paper.
Original post: An accident involving a school bus sent seven people–six who were minors–to the hospital with minor injuries this afternoon.
In what was a “chain reaction” accident on Route 17 at the intersection with Lendall Lane, two cars hit the rear of a private Fredericksburg school bus.
Stafford County Fire and Rescue received the call about 2:55 p.m., according to spokesman Mark Doyle. He could not say where the bus was from.
The bus received minor damage, while the other two vehicles received significant damage. Those occupants denied transport for medical care.
Most injuries were minor bumps and bruises, Doyle said. Thirty people denied medical transport, while seven were taken to Mary Washington Hospital.
Stafford County sent an alert this afternoon that traffic was backed up at the intersection (also a cross road with Solomon Drive) and for drivers to expect delays. Doyle says that should be cleared up now.
State police are investigating the accident.
