Groundbreaking tomorrow for county’s new reservoir

Stafford County currently has two reservoirs that provide water: Smith and Abel lakes. But looking ahead, they won’t provide enough water for the county. That’s why for the past 15 years, Rocky Pen Run Reservoir has been in the works.

It’ll be 2014 before the project is complete and water from the to-be-made reservoir goes through the county’s pipes. But tomorrow, the project will be one step closer to that goal. The Board of Supervisors will break ground at the site for the water treatment plant, which I previewed in yesterday’s newspaper with this story.

Here’s what else is planned for tomorrow’s board meeting:

  • At 3 p.m., the community and economic development committee will meet. Note that usually the whole board meets at this time.
  • At 6 p.m., board members are invited to a reception to welcome the Virginia National Defense Industrial Authority’s Board of Directors at UMW.
  • The board meeting will get underway at 7 p.m. Four public hearings are scheduled (check out the agenda for more details).
  • They’re also scheduled to discuss the new telecommunications element of the Comprehensive Plan, Route 17 widening project property impacts and refer the Courthouse UDA project to the planning commission.

I’m going to once again be tweeting updates from the meeting. You can follow me @StaffordFLS.
