Corrected voter cards to be mailed again
After problems back in August with incorrect voter cards mailed to Stafford County residents, new cards were sent to about 17,000 voters.
But Electoral Board Chairman Doug Filler says those letters looked exactly the same, and in many homes, they likely got mixed up. He told me today that the Registrar will be sending out new cards once again to ensure voters show up at the right polling places come Nov. 8. (The problems began because of new voting districts based on the results of the 2010 U.S. Census, which affected districts for many of the county’s 71,000 voters.)
He’s worked with a graphic designer to make the new mailing stand out. ”It looks like nothing anybody has ever received before,” Filler said.
The bulk mailing will go out sometime next week and be in mailboxes before the election.
“The worst of all possible scenarios is that thousands of Stafford voters report to incorrect polling places,” Filler said. “This would be disastrous on election day. It would be absolutely horrendous for everyone involved.”
