Stimpson’s Briefcase Found
First, the background:
According to a Stafford County Sheriff’s Office press release, Supervisor Susan Stimpson’s car was broken into and her briefcase was stolen. The incident happened Friday in the Leeland Station area. Deputies were responding to a vehicle tampering call, and found that Stimpson’s car window had been shattered.
Now, the news:
According to Stafford Sheriff’s Office spokesman Bill Kennedy, Stimpson’s briefcase was recently found several blocks from her home, with nothing missing. Still no word on what was in the briefcase, or why this particular theft warranted a press release and a reward.
Kennedy said that there have been 161 larcenies from vehicles so far this year. Stolen items include cash and electronics like iPods, phones and computers. He said most of the thefts happened to unsecured vehicles. Always lock your car, people!
UPDATE: Kennedy e-mailed that there is “concern this crime may have been committed because of this Board member’s position as a Board member, which elevates this to a much more serious crime.” He said that investigators are exploring all possibilities.
