Crow’s Nest to Pass on Stiltgrass

A little bit of good news for the Crow’s Nest Natural Area Preserve in Stafford County.

Japanese Stiltgrass

Invasive Japanese Stiltgrass

The Northern Virginia Conservation Trust announced today that they will give $5,000 to the Virginia Natural Area Preservation Fund. The money will be used to remove 17.5 acres of Japanese Stiltgrass–an invasive species on the peninsula.

The money came from private donations to The Trust for Crow’s Nest.

Crow’s Nest is 3,000 acres of pristine wilderness on the Potomac River. While the preserve is occasionally opened for small guided tours, it is not yet officially open to the public.

Fellow reporter Jeff Branscome will have more details in tomorrow’s Free Lance-Star.

Stafford needs to protect and preserve her pristine and undeveloped peninsulas including Widewater. It was dirty politics to remove Widewater (and Brooke) from the Comp plan to get a 7-0 vote and then form a joint committee to put it right back knowing there is enough votes to put them back in. Typical Dirty Stafford Politics.

Why don’t you stop your whining? The board reached a compromise and I think people like you can’t stand that there is actually progress. It doesn’t serve your purpose.
