I’ll Miss You Most Of All, Comp Plan
Supervisors effectively ended a 5-year revision process by approving a new Comprehensive Plan for Stafford County. The vote was surprisingly unanimous, as the plan that ultimately passed was a substitute proposal from supervisor Cord Sterling that eliminated the most controversial Urban Development Areas – Brooke Station and Stafford Station. The latter is on the Widewater peninsula. Aside from eliminating those two UDAs, there were no other changes to the advertised plan.
The vote also created a joint committee of three planning commissioners and three supervisors that will be responsible for figuring out where the housing units from the two eliminated UDAs will go.
My final, unofficial, unscientific tally of public comments is as follows (comments made on original proposed plan, not the substitute that passed):
58 speakers
32 in favor of the plan
22 opposed to the plan, or requesting deferral
4 unsure
