And The Race Is On…
I just spoke to Stafford County Registrar Sharon Persinger to find out who has filed with their respective chair people to run in the June 9 primary. These are technically “unofficial,” as candidates have only had to file with their parties – chairs will confirm with the registrar by this Friday.
The four districts up for election are: Falmouth, Hartwood, Aquia and Garrisonville.
To be clear, this filing deadline was (is) for party candidates only. Party primaries will be held June 9. Independent candidates have until June 9 to file for the November 3 general election.
These are the candidates who have filed with party chairs -
Falmouth: Doug J. Filler (D) Susan Stimpson (R)
Hartwood:Tim Dwight (R) Gary Snellings (R)
Aquia:Paul Milde (R)
Garrisonville:Mark Dudenhefer (R)
From the looks of this, there will really be only one contested primary race: Hartwood. Of all these candidates, Stimpson may be the most interesting—she is the current chairman of the Stafford County Republican Committee and will run for a seat currently held by a Democrat. That would be Board of Supervisors Chairman George Schwartz, who already declared he will not seek a second term.
