Spotsy fire chief’s funeral Thursday expected to cause traffic delays
The funeral Thursday afternoon for a long-time Spotsylvania County fire chief is expected to cause traffic delays, the Sheriff’s Office said in a media release.
Thomas Oesterheld’s funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. at Spotswood Baptist Church, 4009 Lafayette Blvd.
Oesterheld was chief of the Spotsylvania Volunteer Fire Department for nearly 50 years. He died Saturday at age 75.
The funeral procession is expected to leave Spotswood Baptist at 2 p.m. and head to Craigs Baptist Church on West Catharpin Road for the burial. The procession will travel on Lafayette Boulevard, State Route 208 and Post Oak Road to get to the cemetery.
Virginia State Police will be posted at intersections along the route, where traffic will be blocked until the entire procession has passed.
Anyone wishing to pay their respects on the side of the road should park away from the paved surface and remain still until the procession has passed, the Sheriff’s Office said.
