Spotsy draws more than 3,000 re-enactors May 2-4
Spotsylvania County drew 3,591 registered re-enactors May 2-4 for its sesquicentennial commemoration of the Civil War’s Overland Campaign, a spokeswoman confirmed this week.
The re-enactors, which included sutlers, staged the Battle of the Wilderness and the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House at a 200-acre site in the historic courthouse area.
More than 2,000 visitors showed up on each day of the three-day event—2,500 on Friday, 3,371 on Saturday and 2,263 on Sunday, Spotsylvania spokeswoman Kathy Smith said.
County staff and volunteers, 240 in all, helped out at the event.
