Spotsy supervisor worried about traffic impacts of proposed baseball stadium in city
Spotsylvania County Supervisor David Ross says he’s heard from numerous constituents who are concerned about traffic from the proposed minor league baseball stadium at Celebrate Virginia South in Fredericksburg.
So he has directed county staff to draft a resolution asking Fredericksburg City Council to consider the impacts of the project on Spotsylvania and mitigate them to the “greatest extent possible.” He’d also like for Fredericksburg to seek Spotsylvania’s input on future decisions.
Ross said the residents who have contacted him live along Bragg Road and River Road.
It’s unclear when the full Board of Supervisors will vote on the resolution.
Ross has had run-ins with local elected officials in the region before.
Fredericksburg Councilman Matt Kelly and some Stafford County supervisors have criticized Ross’s proposal for a bypass that he says will relieve congestion on State Route 3. Ross says the plan is an alternative to the earlier toll-road proposal, which would leave Interstate 95 at the Virginia Welcome Center, pass through Celebrate Virginia South, and connect with Route 3 near Gordon Road.
