Route 208 bridge over Lake Anna to close overnight June 20-27
The Virginia Department of Transportation issued the following news release:
The Route 208 bridge over Lake Anna in Louisa and Spotsylvania
counties will be closed to all traffic overnight on the evenings of Wednesday, June 20, and
Wednesday, June 27, so concrete can be poured and set for a new bridge deck.
Traffic will be detoured around the bridge on both evenings. The bridge will be closed to traffic
between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.
The concrete work has been scheduled weather permitting. In the event of a cancellation, new
bridge closure dates will be announced.
Detour signs will be posted along the route to guide motorists. The detour route is approximately
12.5 miles. Motorists can expect the detour to add an additional 16 minutes to their trip.
Signs will be posted along the following detour routes:
Eastbound
• Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) to Route 719 (Belmont Road/Days Bridge Road) to
Route 612 (Stubbs Bridge Road) to Route 601 (Lawyers Road) to Route 208
Westbound
• Route 601 (Lawyers Road) to Route 612 (Stubbs Bridge Road) to Route 719 (Belmont
Road/Days Bridge Road) to Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) to Route 208
Variable message boards will be posted on feeder roads in Louisa and Spotsylvania counties to
warn motorists of the upcoming bridge closure and detour.
VDOT has chosen to perform this work overnight during midweek, when traffic volumes on the
bridge are at their lowest levels.
The new bridge deck is part of a two-year, $4.8 million rehabilitation project of the Route 208
bridge over Lake Anna. Work is scheduled to end in December 2012.
