‘One day at a time’
The board just recognized Loraine Lemoine for 31 years of leading the Spotsylvania Department of Social Services. Lemoine will retire next week, and she started working at the DSS in 1970.
County administrator Doug Barnes gave Lemoine a plaque honoring her service, saying “In 1970, I was still in college, so she’s been here a long time.”
The supervisors and the entire audience gave Lemoine a standing ovation as she received the award.
Lemoine said, “Thank you for your continued support of the needy of our county.”
She posed for a photo with the supervisors, and Chairman Benny Pitts asked Lemoine how she worked in social services for 40 years.
“One day at a time,” Lemoine replied.
