Urban Development Area community meeting tonight

WHO? from the FLS reporting staff will be in attendance at these meetings for headcounts, the message and details provided by Spotsylvania County officials and elected officials. After all, UDAs are news, very big news and those citizens not able to show up for the meetings should necessarily get credible feed back from its government, much the same way County government announces in the FLS that they are looking for public and citizen input, but NOT including those who qualify as “citizens” and are laden with serious financial interest in the outcome of developing UDAs in Spotsyylvania County that are already on the County’s drawing board.

Still can’t get the 2005 Referendum “meetings” out of my head, that were conducted by County officials to raise transportation money that came in 45% lower than what the NUMBER should have been. The County still has over $100,000 in referendum money for transportation but can’t use it because the County would have to raise real estate taxes to cover the use and cost debt service for many years to come.

What does any of this have to do with UDAs? Why not ask your county and elected officials where transportation is addressed in their proposal on UDAs and the fall out that comes with putting 4-24 familiies on a single acre of land and how the population build-out around a railway station in Lee’s Hill is supposed to generate wealth for the county at the expense of high density housing that Cosner,Tricord, Hazel, Vakos, and Silver, to name a few of the real stakeholders in Spotsy intend to build?

Does anyone in Spotsylvania and Stafford Counties really believe their respective elected officials are going to provide their constituents with the details on UDAs that they have already been put into their growth plan?

We can start with VRE and the VRE Master Agreement which none of us were made privy to. Even Stafford and Fredericksburg will confirm the public was never a part of the vote that brought VRE to Stafford, Fredericksburg, and Spotsylvania with, Caroline County already in the mix and just on the horizon of building there own railway station with the assistance of the George Washington REGIONAL Commission (GWRC) and FAMPO, which are made up of your county elected officials.

So, what role does the public play in all this smoke and mirrors?

If the FLS is not going to be present at these meetings, then some one citizen should be present to record the give and take of these sponsored, and scripted events. What do YOU have to lose for showing up with a movie camera and a recorder?
