Summerfield gets approval in city

The Fredericksburg City Council approved a special-use permit last night to allow Marion E. Hicks to complete his Summerfield subdivision. You can read the story here. With the approval, the city loses land that was zoned for commercial.

The land is off U.S. 1 and Hudgins Road, across from the county animal shelter. A section of the farm is in the city, and supervisors approved Hicks’ rezoning last year for 127 housing units.

The county process was a little bumpier because there was some protest from nearby homeowners.
