Barnes recommends chopping library increase
County Administrator Doug Barnes just recommended supervisors gut the increase to the library fund by another $129,000. This includes the $150,000 cut already in the proposals for all potential real estate tax rates under debate now.
Barnes said he recommended the cuts because Stafford County just approved its tax rate and he did not want the increase in funding to the library that is for a new branch in Stafford County to be more than what Stafford adopted.
The library, which serves this region, requires that all localities share in funding new branches.
