Prescription Drug Discounts for Spotsy residents

In June 2007 Spotsylvania County introduced a discount card program to help consumers cope with the high price of prescription drugs. The county signed a contract to make free prescription drug discount cards available under a program sponsored by the National Association of Counties (NACo) that offers savings off the retail price of commonly prescribed drugs.

Recently, NACo announced a new online feature for NACo’s Prescription Discount Card Program. Now county residents have the option to print a dynamic ID card directly from the Internet, for immediate use at any participating pharmacy. This new ID card is not intended to replace printed ID cards, but rather to enhance availability to and distribution of the NACo Prescription Discount Card to residents.

County residents can visit 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to print a personalized ID card. Savings are available immediately at any participating pharmacy.

Enrollment is easy, convenient and secure:

1. Access and select "Print a card" at the

top of the front page

2. Utilize the map tool to select "Virginia," and also select "Spotsylvania"

3. Complete a simple form

4. Select "Print Card" to generate a personal ID card

5. The ID card can be used immediately at any participating pharmacy

County residents who have prescription coverage have been saving money by using the card for drugs that their health plan doesn’t cover. But this program is particularly beneficial for people who are underinsured or uninsured, and they do not have to be in the Medicare program to participate.

There is no cost to County taxpayers for NACo and Spotsylvania to make these money-saving cards available to residents. Presenting the NACo discount card at a participating pharmacy is easy because there is no enrollment form, no membership fee and no restriction on frequency of use. Cardholders and their family members can all use the card, and it may be presented whenever their prescriptions are not covered by insurance.
