County moving forward with Harrison Road Connector?
That’s what Supervisor Hap Connors told me today. He says the county is going to move ahead with scheduling a public hearing for Dec. 9 that will begin the condemnation proceedings for small pieces of land needed to construct the 1.5 mile Harrison Road Connector from the back of the mall to Harrison Road. Some of the land is needed just for temporary construction easements.
A story with more details will run tomorrow, but one of the landowners already filed a lawsuit to stop the process. Gifford Hampshire, who represents the landowner Susan Tait, urged supervisors at their last meeting to follow Attorney General Robert McDonnell’s opinion that the Community Development Authority ordinance does not legally exist and to start the process over. Supervisors are scheduled to discuss this case in closed session tomorrow night. The story in tomorrow’s paper highlights the lawsuit and the county’s actions since the AG opinion. The crux of the lawsuit is the AG’s opinion.
