Supervisors appoint acting county administrator
The Spotsylvania County Board of Supervisors has just begun with its budget retreat here at the Courthouse fire and rescue station. Its first action was to amend the agenda to add a motion to appoint Deputy County Administrator Doug Barnes as the acting county administrator.
Supervisors voted unanimously in favor of the appointment. Barnes thanked supervisors for the vote of confidence and told outgoing County Administrator Randy Wheeler that he is sad to see him go. Barnes said it will be a smooth transition and he will work very hard for the county. Barnes has a long history with Spotsylvania, and has worked here I believe for more than 30 years. His best friend, Ernie Pennington, also is a deputy county administrator.
Wheeler resigned last week and his last day is Nov. 30. Barnes starts Dec. 1, a Monday.
