Right Wing Liberals Opines on ordinance change

DJ McGuire, you may know him best as the right-wing liberal, gave planning commissioners an opinion tonight on the proposal to amend the zoning ordinance to require five uses that have public gatherings to get a special-use permit in an industrial zone.

McGuire is becoming a regular at board meetings lately.

He opposes the changes and prefers the county move in a less restrictive direction to allow churches and other organizations to locate in industrial-zoned land without any need for government approval. For background, see my previous post with links.

"To force all community organizations to acquire a conditional use permit will damage volunteerism and community cohesion at a time when such things are more needed, not less," he wrote.

"Once again, it appears some in the county wish to impose their vision of acceptable development not only on the rest of us, but also on future Spotsylvanians who may–and probably will–have different views, We should not be so shortsighted.

McGuire is planning to run against Skinner. Word is that Hugh Cosner, former Supervisor who resigned in disgrace 20 years ago, is encouraging McGuire. Should be interesting…..

    Whoa there, Lama!

First off, I have no idea what I’m doing next year. We’re still trying to plan the family Christmas vacation! 2009 might as well be 2109 at this point.

Secondly, I have talked to Hugh Cosner a couple of times, and he has encouraged me – to continue to fight the disastrous HCOD design regulations. He and I have never discussed next year’s election in Lee Hill.

Finally, while I was not here when Cosner resigned from the BOS, I’ve been told it was due to health reasons. Also, if the man left under such a cloud, how could his friend and ally – Mary Lee Carter – be elected to succeed him in 1989? And re-elected in 1991, 1995, and 1999?

I hadn’t intended to have my response comment posted twice. Mea culpa.

Resigned because of “health reasons.” I guess if the FBI was investigating me for allegations of illegal activity as a public official I wouldn’t be feeling very well either. Just research the facts…..
