Supervisors are not going to Florida, so RELAX
Let’s get this straight once and for all.
The Board of Supervisors is not going on a "retreat" away from home. The word obviously led some to believe that they were going to take some expensive trip outside the county to talk abou the budget. That is not the case.
Here is how it transpired. Supervisor Benjamin Pitts CC’d me on an e-mail he sent to County Administrator Randy Wheeler asking that a retreat be scheduled if other supervisors agreed. Nowhere did it say where this retreat would be held. I made several attempts to contact Mr. Pitts that day to discuss his letter but could not reach him. I used a portion of what he said in his letter for the story and used the word "retreat" not thinking that it could—and did—lead readers to assume this meant a trip.
The supervisors last night agreed to have this retreat, but I am going to call it a "special meeting" from now on because they plan to have it either at a fire station, business or somewhere else in the county. They are not going to Florida or Williamsburg.
I hope that clears up the issue.
