Tax Increases

This afternoon we will get the chance to hear supervisors’ thoughts on the five-year budget forecast that shows the real estate tax bill could increase by as much as 25 percent.

Keep in mind, that is without a reassessment, which could either lower the impact or make it worse.

The budget officers estimated the tax rate, now at 62 cents, would have to increase by 15.2 cents over five years to make budget.

They recommended supervisors make all departments and the school system reduce their current budget spending by 1 percent to help balance this fiscal year budget that started July 1.

I will have a full report on the numbers, and their comments, for tomorrow’s newspaper.
