Hunting Run Park to open!!!!

Boy oh boy, the fishermen are going to go crazy this weekend. The Hunting Run Park will open the boat launch this weekend. Here’s the county press release:

Construction is underway and nearing completion of Hunting Run Park, Phase I.  On Saturday, Sept. 29, the long-awaited boat ramp will be available for fishing at 6 a.m.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. at the boat ramp that is currently under construction by Pross Construction Company Incorporated. The Phase I project provides a gravel access road, parking area and boat ramp.

Phase II is to be constructed in the Spring of 2008 and will provide a fishing pier, permanent rental facility, public restrooms and picnic pavilion.  The early opening of the boat ramp provides fishing seven (7) days per week, from 6:00 a.m. to dusk or 8:00 p.m., whichever occurs first.  The Department of Parks and Recreation will provide attendants to monitor activities and sell daily and seasonal passes.  No boat or equipment rental is available until next Spring with completion of Phase II.“We are very excited to open Hunting Run Park for public fishing” said Kevin Brooks, Director of Parks and Recreation.  “I believe our citizens will enjoy this facility for years to come”.  The cost of Phase I is $157,600, and Phase II is projected to cost approximately $600,000.  Contact Spotsylvania’s Parks and Recreation Department at 540-507-7529, or visit for further information.   Details on the ribbon-cutting ceremony and on projected Hunting Run Park hours follow:

This is one of the best things to happen in Spotsylvania. It is another much-needed supply of drinking water. It is a valuable recreation site. It gives us a unique attraction for visitors. And, it provides some of the best natural beauty to our county.
