Bits and pieces of government in action
As my first blog post, I will do a short introduction. My name is Dan Telvock and I came to the Free Lance-Star in November to cover Spotsylvania government.
Before coming here, I was the deputy editor at Leesburg Today in Loudoun County, reporter for the The Winchester Star and a reporter for the Warren Sentinel. I also worked as a news anchor in radio and did some television news for a little bit. I figured I wasn’t good looking enough for television so I decided to give writing a try. I don’t think I am good looking enough for writing either, but oh well.
This coming year will mark my 10th in the news business. I noticed a few gray hairs on my head just a few days ago, too. If I pull them out, do more grow?
I’m a common sight at board meetings every other Tuesday and attend Planning Commissions from time to time. Come say hi. I’m the guy with the tag around his neck and the notebook in his hand. I try to wear a tie. But I don’t iron my shirts.
This blog will be similar to Emily Battle’s blog on Fredericksburg government. I will post documents and other items that don’t get in the paper. I will add information from stories that sometimes is cut to fit in the newspaper.
Hopefully, this also will be an opportunity for readers to express opinions on matters the county government is dealing with.
Oh, I forgot! Did you read the news that Spotsylvania supervisors adopted a budget for fiscal year 2008 without a tax increase?
What do you think about that?
