UMW ROUNDUP: Eagles hold off Gulls’ final push

Leading Capital Athletic Conference rival Salisbury University by one point with a little over 3 minutes to play, University of Mary Washington men’s basketball team member Dylan Farinet drained two free throws and hit a key 3-pointer to secure the Eagles’ 75–70 victory over the host Sea Gulls on Wednesday night.

With the win, the Eagles remain the lone unbeaten team in CAC play.

John Yoxthimer scored 15 points to lead the Eagles while Bradley Riester and Taylor Johnson netted 13 apiece.

The Eagles visit No. 16 Wesley College on Saturday at 3 p.m.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The Eagles dominated on the glass and on the 3-point line, but an off-night shooting and multiple turnovers resulted in Mary Washington dropping a 51–39 CAC decision to host Salisbury on Wednesday.

Sam Partonen led the Eagles with eight points, but UMW as a team shot 28 percent and allowed the Sea Gulls to convert 26 turnovers into 18 points.

UMW will try to right the ship against CAC rival Wesley College in Delaware on Saturday at 1 p.m.
